Kraughne:Other fascinating report that actually just retells everything in this thread.

All we need to do is make sure our pilots are Germanic. Problem solved.
Yes, I have even simpler solution: kill all non-english speaking humans to avoid any future misunderstanding - it's only the majority of the world population.

English is very hard to pronounce (and there are many different English pronunciations). Once I was in China when a Chinese came up to me and started speaking. It took me a while to realize that he was speaking actually in English - but I could not understand a word. In Bei-jing it was easier to speak Polish with Chinese than use English (Polish and Chinese are closer fonetically than Chinese and English). And many Chinese spoke Polish good enough to make business with them.

In critical situation people use their mother tongue. If it is not English then it can lead to problems...

It is fashionable, at least in the United States, not to see this as a big problem. Many native speakers of English think that there is something wrong with all of the people in the world who do not speak English. In 1988, just before the Olympic Games were to be held in Seoul, a journalist from one of the Detroit newspapers visited the Republic of Korea and reported back that it was a strange place. Among the odd features of Korean culture that this reporter noted, along with the fact that some people ate dog meat, was that the people there did not speak English.

A monolingual American woman travelling in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, decided to leave her tour group and go off exploring the city on her own. When she needed to ask directions she could find no one who could speak English. When she spoke to people they looked at her and shrugged their shoulders. They could not help. In other words, she got the same reception that a person who spoke only Czech would receive on the streets of a typical American city. When this kind of thing happens to Americans, many of them are shocked."

You're preaching to the choir, mate. No need to convince anyone sitting here, reading this forum.

Eh, geo's post was pretty caustically sarcastic, but I broke out laughing at 'Parolocaust'. rido.gif

I just think that certain things should not be alluded to in a joke.
