I've attempted learning Esperanto once before about seven months ago, but I gave up. I've been studying Latin independently for about five months now, and I figure if I can stay dedicated to that, there's no reason I can't attempt Esperanto once more. I'm in the process of considering correspondence, but right now I would really like somebody who can answer grammar questions and look over my Esperanto. Would anybody like to help me out?

Alright. Is it cool if I just make a topic to post my questions in? I'm liable to have a ton.

And yeah, I actually took Latin in middle school. I learned voraciously for the first year, but afterwards my interest dwindled for some reason. In freshman year I couldn't bear it any longer and switched to French, which I'd been taking before Latin. Only last fall did I actually become interested in language on the whole, and while I plan on going as far as possible with my French education, I regretted no longer taking Latin, so I've been studying independently out of Wheelock's. It's really fascinating stuff for a grammar nerd like me

Yeah, what you can do is post a thread for a question, and if your next questions are similar lump them in too, or create another thread if they're different enough.

Also, check things in the Learning/Grammar area like the Concise Grammar (or the detailed grammar if you're feeling confident), the Language Questions page (which I never visited but it probably would have helped), that might be simpler from time to time, unless you have a generic question but would rather have a coversation about it (in case the FAQ style language questions don't cover every facet, or not in the same style that you think in).

But anyway, as Kraughne (kroni? krona? kraŭne?) said, feel free to ask anything.

Hehe, Latin is great for grammar. Especially once you've got all of it relatively memorised it makes romance languages so much easier with all their dang conjugations etc.

Well, thanks everyone! I had assumed from the relative composition of topics on here that beginning grammar threads were looked down upon, but given the responses here I'll just go ahead with those!

Oh, I am pretty damn closer to a beginner. I have the advantage of quite a bit of linguistic knowledge, as well as, say, five hours of actual Esperanto study, but beyond that I am clueless.

And yeah, I've had to learn so much grammar to facilitate learning Latin. I really do feel that I have a better grasp of English as a result, which is an invaluable tool to me as a writer.

Nah, not at all. Sometimes of course Google helps a lot more than asking here, but this entire site is basically geared at beginners and intermediates, whether they're learning the language or trying to use it (like myself).

The only special rules for the English section is that you post an English translation of an Esperanto post (unless of course there's a reason why not, e.g. asking in EO if someone can translate it because you can't speak English, or if it's a short joke that translating would kill it outright). Although there should be a warning for getting stuck in grammatical arguments, but grammar + arguments will always end in war and total chaos fun

Sounds good. In fact, any other beginners who have questions about Esperanto grammar should come to this thread as well. This is where the cool kids can get their questions answered.

Of course, there are a few tricks with Google that can optimize your searches and narrow results considerably, such as using quotation marks to match exact search terms, using a minus sign to indicate terms you want to exclude, and so forth. But yes, outside of turning Google into a personal encyclopedia, that's pretty much what this forum is for.
