one problem with rss feeds - unless you use something like google reader - is that they have to be configured for every device... i often (eg. now) use my mobile phone to visit lernu and i don't even know how to configure rss feeds there.

On mobile phones it's best to use the Opera mini browser, which has an RSS-feed reader. It also happens to be an excellent browser in general for mobile phones.

I'm sure there are other options, too. I haven't tried Google Reader on a mobile phone, but maybe it works ok, too?

jean-luc:lernu's forum are pretty rough but there is usually several quick and easy shortcuts in forum software. By example for displaying what was updated, or only the new threads, or only the threads you wrote in,or searching all your messages, and lot more.
Yes, I suppose the planned new forum that Erinja mentioned will include these kinds of features.

I think there is a misunderstanding, I'm not the one who complained about the forum lango.gif
I was just making a general suggestion to those that maybe don't like RSS for whatever reason. The message wasn't aimed at you.

ceigered:For me, for example, I'm arrogant enough to not call myself bad at Esperanto, but I don't feel comfortable in the EO language forums, so I chose:
"Mostly the English forum, out of comfort zone"
haha! ditto.

I pretty much exclusively participate in the English language forums, for reasons already expressed by many here. However, I regularly check the French and German forums just to read what other people are chatting about, and I have found fascinating threads in the Esperanto forums, which I read to strengthen my feel for the language, but in which I don't post (not because I feel that I can't express myself, but because I don't feel confident that I can actually interact with people exclusively in Esperanto yet).

I spent most of my life around Spanish-speaking people and understand the language well enough; but never having studied it, I don't reproduce it very well. Not sure why I haven't visited the Spanish-language forums here...but since I'm going to be learning Spanish grammar now, perhaps I'll pop over there as well.

Trust me on this: no one EVER feels ready to do it until they just jump in and do it. So do it. Don't wait until you feel you're ready or it'll never happen.

So, c'mon over to the Esperanto section. Make mistakes. We're cool with it. If you want, we'll correct you. If you don't, we won't. No one will laugh. Not only do you have to stumble a bit before you can walk, it's the stumbling that actually makes the walking possible. So feel free.

Chainy:Loads of people here must have Google email accounts. Just log in and then use their 'Google Reader' for the RSS-feeds!
I think there's also some sort of facebook group for lernu that has some sort of RSS setup, so various posts end up on the main facebook feed (it seems to be all the sections combined though). Still, it's interesting to find bit and pieces from the EO forum that come up.

So I shall!

A little tidbit for you all - we are planning a new course for the new lernu. One of the planned exercises for the new course will be to make a posting in the Esperanto-language lernu forums. It's designed to give learners a little push in the direction of interacting with the community. Even a person with a very basic level of knowledge can make a contribution to a forum discussion, even if it's not anything complicated.

That sounds like a good idea.

Another example of an interesting thread in the Esperanto-language forum here
