Altebrilas' thread got me interested - how many people are using just the English forum, or the English forum and the Esperanto forum, and why?
Of course you can do the poll and not actually write a message, but if you wish to write a message on the subject feel free.
You can also choose multiple answers, but please only choose ones that, well, make sense together
----

Not good (at Esperanto) means you don't think you're up to scratch.
Out of comfort zone (in EO forums) means you feel awkward, worried, scared or unable to get along with people in the Esperanto forums
In comfort zone is the exact opposite of course.
To help beginners = you use English to help beginners.
Nothing interesting = nothing in the EO forums interests you.
Like EN forum more means you like the English forums more (you may or may not feel OK in the Esperanto forums but that is irrelevant, clarify why with another option as well if you feel the need).

"Mostly the English forum, out of comfort zone"
At the same time though, I would like to think of myself as helpful to beginners (also arrogantly, no doubt in actual fact I probably help CONFUSE them ), so I also chose:
"I use the English forums more to help beginners".
Whether any are actually the case (e.g. whether I'm actually good at Esperanto, whether I'm helpful, or whether the Esperanto forums are actually "out of my comfort zone") is unimportant, since this poll is to get an idea of people's reasons or excuses, and what influence this has over their decisions.

darkweasel:I use the Esperanto-, French-, English- and German-language subboard because these are the languages I can understand to some degree - personally I care more about the content of the threads than about their language.I feel like darkweasel, but I should confess that I use only the Spanish, English and Esperanto forums
I use to help beginners in the Spanish forum, in the other ones I participate mainly when the topic (or some message) seems interesting to me.
Unfortunately, the Spanish forum doesn't have much activity lately... there are one or two bigger threads which have some activity ('algunas dudas' = 'some doubts' and 'aplicaciones' = 'applications'). I usually find more interesting threads in this forum

I don't post as much in the Esperanto forums simply because I can bang out an English post in very little time, and sometimes I don't have much time (often my visit is during a quick break while I'm at work).

However, curiously, not all the posts in the English language forums are written by native speakers of English, in fact quite a few aren't.
Here, I think the lively nature of the English language section may be the reason.
Quite often a post in the Esperanto Questions section (I tend not to read the other Esperanto forums much) may not receive many reactions, or they may be slow to apppear - allowing ones interest in the topic to go off the boil.
Nevertheless I think one could encourage more participation in the Esperanto forums - establishing a different tradition, so to speak.
I wonder if we are more tolerant of mistakes in our mother tongue than in Esperanto.

I was talking with some others about this topic, and I think one problem might be that it's harder to express ones personal feelings in a foreign language, so for many beginners they feel unable to express their viewpoints ocrrectly in Esperanto despite being able to write rather well or at least understandably to a certain degree.
Since the first Esperanto forum is the Vidpunktoj section, and it's arguable one of the most prominent, no doubt some beginners are turned off by not being able to express themselves amongst the opnions of others, which can be rather strong.
That's how I feel at least - despite having been exposed to EO for a couple of years, I feel like I'm unable to "stand my ground" in many of the conversations taking place.

Possibly that will change when the site is re-done sometime in the future, but we'll see. It's still very early days for planning the site's redesign.
