Chainy:Oh, man, and what can I say about it. I can't even imagine the situation as a reality - in sci-fi it goes just fine, kind of at least...ceigered:"Because of this strange situation, the person bought the gazette such that (or "in that way that") he couldn't read the news".That sounds pretty bizarre in English. I don't really undertand it.

Kraughne:This thread took a turn for the comical.A agree. 3 pages to answer a simple question about how to say something in the simple, logical language. Beginners don't need to know all the other stuff. The first answer was great. Give examples, that's the best help. I know we all like chatting about other stuff and details of language etc., but how about we do it in the EO forum?
More examples (tell me if I'm off):
Mi aĉetis fusilo por ke ĉasu.
Mi ellitiĝis frue por ke vidu la sunleviĝon.

3rdblade:That should be:
More examples (tell me if I'm off):
Mi aĉetis fusilo por ke ĉasu.
Mi ellitiĝis frue por ke vidu la sunleviĝon.
1. "Mi aĉetis fusiloN por ĉasi" (or if you want to emphasize that it is for you to do the hunting, then you could say: Mi aĉetis fusilon por ke mi ĉasu)
- However, I suppose the natural assumption would generally be that it is for you to do the hunting, so 'por ĉasi' is probably fine most of the time. And you could say 'Mi aĉetis fusilon por ĉasado' - in fact, this sounds better in some ways if you're not indicating what exactly you are hunting.
2. Mi ellitiĝis frue por vidi la sunleviĝon (again possibly for emphasis, you could say 'por ke mi vidu...')
- Clearly in this case 'por vidado' would not work so well as it sounds a bit weird to say 'por vidado de la sunleviĝo'.

Chainy:Well, how about "The manner in which the person bought the newspaper disallowed him from actually reading any "news" per se, because no matter how he bought the newspaper, it was full of nothing but FUD anyway. Whether he bought a physical newspaper or subscribed to the online version, there was nothing we could call "news" available anyway."ceigered:"Because of this strange situation, the person bought the gazette such that (or "in that way that") he couldn't read the news".That sounds pretty bizarre in English. I don't really undertand it.
I find it understandable, but it's certainly bizarre and pointless/boring (sort of like stating the obvious from an angle that's irrelevant).
But anyway, it wasn't meant to have any "deep" meaning, it's just a silly way to demonstrate how you can grammatically compare the usages of "por ke" and "tiel ke" while keeping with the theme of some guy buying a newspaper in such a manner that he couldn't read the news (as Geo63 made a joke about before ).

ceigered:I find it understandable, but..If I understand you correctly, one way that the situation might arise, would be if someone always went to buy newspapers at a time when the good quality publications had sold out (perhaps because he rose too late), and all that were left were rubbishy tabloids full of gossip about celebrities, but no real news.
Thus the way in which this person went about buying newspapers (going too late) would deprive him of news.
