According to Claude Piron (5:18-42), Esperanto is especially suitable for translation. Perhaps a system that routed translation through Esperanto would be better than current programs at translation between very dissimilar languages, like English and Chinese, or Japanese and European languages generally.

I believe a system like that is in place, but not using Esperanto, instead using something similar to a very sterile looking computer-coded language (probably more comparable to Lojban, but the words generally reflect their definition in English in some manner, e.g. "art (followed by a number code or something reflecting its role etc)").

They're more complicated than Esperanto due to the differences in grammar which Esperanto can't translate between, and they're still not omnipotent because they can't use these "translation layers" to, say, make up for any ambiguity in the input language (e.g. They read many books = Ili/Oni/Li/Ŝi legas/legis multajn librojn).

But I don't know much more about it, due to how complicated it is.

geo63:Translated by L. Zamenhof:

Litova, kara patroland', la sanon vi prezentas!
Valoron vian tiu nur en plena vero sentas,
Kiu vin perdis. Pleje nun min via ĉarm' altiras,
Ravita mi priskribas vin, ĉar mi je vi sopiras.

Unbeatable.
I agree. No offence to Mickiewicz/Mickevičius, but Zamenhof's translation is actually better than the original. No computer program can do that. For the moment, you still need a human for some things.

Looks a really interesting site. I tried it out with English to French and it gave me a choice of 7 translations.

Very gratifying to see that Esperanto is included in the selectable languages.

I see that there is a possibility to suggest better translations. I wonder what the site does with the suggestions?

When I tried 'Mi ĉesis fumi antaŭ 3 jaroj', it gave me 'I ended to smoke 3 years ago, so I suggested 'I gave up smoking 3 years ago'.

Will it have learnt my translation?
