I recently read in Libera Folio about this website: http://kinejo.blogsome.com/

It has old Russian films subtitled in Esperanto. You can watch them online, or if you have a fast connection (and the proper codecs), download the movies to watch on your own computer or divx-capable DVD player.

This is legal, in case you were wondering, because the movies were all made prior to 1954, and are thus now considered to be in the public domain according to Russian law.

This would be an excellent chance to practice your Esperanto by watching some movies that are very likely not available at all in English. It makes Esperanto seem much more tangible and useful when you can do something with it that you can't do in English (but also somewhat sucks if you see something you really like, since you can't really show it to your non-Esperanto-speaking friends and expect them to appreciate it!)

Disclaimer - I have not actually watched any of the movies yet and therefore can't vouch for the quality of the subtitling, etc. I did notice a typo on the website but hopefully it is not indicative of the quality of the subtitles.

Yes, see the thread in 'About Everything Else' entitled 'Rusia Filmoj en Esperanto'. I have watched a couple of the films and can vouch for the quality of the subtitling that I have seen. I would definately recommend this site.

Very interesting. I think I should look more into it later. I just wanted to tip you all about dotSUB, which I discovered a week or so ago. It is a youtube-like website for translation of subtexts for small videos. So it is unlike La Ponto which focuses on longer works.

dotSUB has a column for esperanto, and it should definetly be used. I would like to see more esperanto translations, and also original movies in esperanto which could be subtexted in other languages. I would like the "Esperanto estas.."-movie to be uploaded if the creators consent, so it can be subtexted in more languages.

E-mail teamo@lernu.net if you're interested in getting this done. I haven't seen any discussion of it, so I don't think the team has necessarily heard of this site.
