If I read that correctly, they've scrapped an Esperanto arts committee without replacement for now while they change their strategy?

Yes, they did. I see it like a slap into the face to folks who try to establish modern art. I.e. kinofestivalo.org and others small minority.

I don't know the age statistics of the last UK. But for me it looks like an superiority of verda fiereco brainwashed dinosaur folks try to bond donated money (UEA member fees) against interests of younger UEA members. Okay, why to worry about. They will take their verda fiereco into the grave. Bonan nokton, verda dinosaŭro.

Not exactly... They have elected a committe for the next elections, and later the cultural committe gave their report. In this report, they proposed to eliminate, or suspend one category in a competition.

For those who don't know, every year there is an open cultural contest. You can send poems, short stories, plays (teatraĵoj), essays, children books, films and songs.

A group of experts in each of those categories judge the received material, and they give the results and prizes, etc., etc.

In the last years, some of those categories have finished without any winners. Partly because of the lack of participants, partly because of low quality of the received material.

The prizes for some of those categories are money for the first, second, third place and new talent.

ONE of the categories is for songs and films, which is the one they are proposing not to continue, or to suspend temporarily from the contest, given the fact that the contest has not had winners (nor good participants) lately.

I may disagree with the fact of having less categories in that contest, but I don't see it as a 'harakiri'... Mainly because people wasn't even participating in that category.

Amike,

Daniel.

I see it like a farce to propagate that Esperanto community has culture at the one hand and skipping categories of open cultural contests due to missing participants etc at the other hand. That's some kind of capitulation which I tried to point to with that Harakiri term. Because I think an language community without culture art can not evalute and will die.

Apart that, there excist a small but professionaly produced asset of Esperanto music which can be found at Vinilkosmo and filmoj.net is evaluating, too.

I also see a lot of musicans at that UK-Sola video. I.e. Gijom, Kim (ex-Espo Despo), La Perdita Generacio, Bugga Bang, Jomart & Nataŝa ... So this folks should be capable to give stategic advise to avoid failed culture contest due to missing participants.

Does it cost them money to have the different categories in the competition? Surely there's no difference between having a category no one does or not having it.

Maybe they should just turn it into a arts competition in general, and as long as you've got an EO art form, go for it...
