eojeff:I've never used it, but Microsoft has the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator. I don't know if that will help or not for Windows users.

I can confirm this. I used the software to build my own German/Esperanto keyboard layout. It is basically the old German keyboard layout with twelve added extra keyboard combinations (e.g. ^ + c = ĉ; Alt Gr + ü = ŭ). There is no "standard Esperanto keyboard layout" as it will always be an addition to an existing national layout.

The best thing is that the new layout is set as the default one. That means, no switching necessary. I start my computer and can type in Esperanto immediately. Very natural. When I had to reinstall my computer, one of the first things was to restore the saved Esperanto keyboard layout. I felt "home again" at once.

I use Accent Composer. You can set it up to allow you to type any Unicode character using a key combination of your own choice. Of course, you have to have a Unicode font installed, but nowadays nearly everyone does. The only disadvantage is that it is not free, but as an editor/writer/translator who has to use lots of non-English characters, I feel it is worth every penny I paid for it.

Well, if anybody's interested version 2.93 of Tajpi is now available which has a new feature some may find useful: Tajpi Script. It allows you to configure hotkeys which activate a number of commands. A couple of the more useful ones are conversion of text held in an editor window (or the clipboard) to and from the X-system or H-system, and input of any unicode symbol, or series of symbols, to the system.

This "Tajpi" can mess up from time to time. Mostly it works OK, but sometimes it behaves rather strangely - especially with CorelDraw and Corel Photopaint X3. Maybe a lightweight version with just Esperanto keyboard only (no other options) would be welcome.

Could you be a bit more specific? If there are any problems with specific apps I can take a look and put a fix in for it.
