I have mentioned previously that I am working to translate Pokemon Red into Esperanto, but I have hit a peculiar road block.
For those of you who have not played Pokemon Red, all of the towns are named after colours. This would not be such an issue were I not colour-blind. Some colours don't have names in Esperanto and I am unable to find a similar colour to use in its place. The colours I need help with are
Viridian
Pewter
Cerulean
Vermilion
Lavender*
Celadon
Saffron
Fuchsia
Cinnabar
*I found "Lila," but I don't know if that is the colour or just the plant.
Wow that's actually all of them but Palette Town and the Indigo Plateau. Anyway, if you could find it in your heart to help this poor, colourblind and hopelessly nerdy Esperantist, I'd be very appreciative.
Sincerely,
Vespero.
Post Scriptum:
Anyone who would be interested in helping further with this project, see the blog linked above. Because I am still obtaining permission to use the Translated Pokemon Names, I am not opening the script to public translation yet, but I plan to do so when permissions are obtained.
Post, Post Scriptum:
On a side note, what's the Esperanto equivalent of PS? It's also for the translation.

Otherwise... Saffron could be 'orflava', fuchsia 'helroza', vermillion ruĝa ("let's just call it 'red'," as Bigbird once said on Sesame Street), celadon 'palverda'; 'Lila' is good for lavender (if it were the flower it would have an 'o' ending'). Pewter, 'brilgriza'. There may be more definite words out there.
I'd like to know the answer to the PS thing myself. I've thought of it as 'postscribaĵo' and thus left it as PS.

3rdblade:The easy way out it to follow the Esperanto naming convention for (real) places; more well-known ones get esperantised (eg Novjorko, Londono), but the other ones just stay as they are in the original language.Ah, those look like they will work nicely. Thank you very much, but what about Viridian, Cerulean, ktp?

Oh, if my art teacher mother knew I was having this much trouble with colours I fear she'd be rather disappointed >___<

viridian - marverda, (or 'lazura' - azure, or bright blue, which is close) cerulean - profundblua

Punca, karmezina, karmina, rufa, skarlata are all specific reds.
But in the spirit of the language, many colour terms are constructions eg ĉeriz-ruĝa, brik-ruĝa, papav-ruĝa, blu-verda, brun-ruĝa, hel-verda etc.
So Pewter could be stan-griza.
Another route is to simply purloin a term for a fruit or a flower that typically has a certain colour - Oranĝa, Lavenda, Citrona etc., without adding a '-kolora' suffix.
I don't know if there is already such a site on the net, but it would be interesting to see a collection of shades and hues with Esperanto labelling. There's a project for someone of artistic bent, if it has not been done already.
PS: Posta skribo.

Saffron - Orflava
Fuchsia - Helroza
Celedon - Palverda
Lavender - Lila
Pewter - Brilgriza
Viridian - Marverda
Cerulean - Profundblua
Cinnabar - Karmina
Vermilion - Rufa
(Palette Town is Paletrubeto and Indigo Plateau is Indigplataĵo)
I used eo.wikipedia.org to get descriptions of Karmina and Rufa and gave the names to the cities I thought they fit best.
Thank you for all your help ^^

Paletro is Palette, Urbeto is town.
