I wouldn't say "Mi ĵetis la pilkon en lin", it sounds like he is swallowing the ball.

You could shorten the original phrase I gave and say "Mi ĵetis la pilkon liadirekten".

miadirekten, siadirekten, etc - they aren't usages that you really find in historic literature, but they are occasionally used in modern Esperanto.

How about:

I threw the ball to him = Mi ĵetis la pilkon al li.

I threw the ball at him = Mi ĵetis la pilkon sur lin.

Here's an example of a Zamenhof text from his translation of the Old Testament:
Se iu puŝis iun pro malamo aŭ sin kaŝinte ĵetis ion sur lin kaj ĉi tiu mortis, aŭ se li malamike per sia mano batis lin kaj ĉi tiu mortis, tiam oni devas mortigi la batinton: li estas mortiginto; la venĝanto de la sango povas mortigi la mortiginton, kiam li renkontos lin.
Not a very happy text that one, but we can use it for the purpose of learning the language! ridulo.gif

If I understood that correctly, then damn, back to the new testament where it mentions the golden rule bits for me rido.gif. (something about killing the killer??)

But thanks for that informative example, Chainy rido.gif.

And thanks too Erinja for those shortened forms, I imagine when I compile an encyclopaedia of all the sibling conflict in my family, I'll have a multitude of ways to describe the volleys of lego/shoe/wiimote throwing thanks to this thread rido.gif.
