Long, long ago French was just Latin...

Now it happens to English, what a loss malgajo.gif lango.gif
That’s just how language evolution works.
And who is speaking Latin now? The same might happen to English.

And it will happen to English as we know it. English will evolve, and in 2000 years most speakers of the English of that time definitely won’t understand English as it was spoken in 2011.

(But as we all know, the world will end in 2012 anyway... rido.gif )

Maybe this is a bit strong to say provided that nowadays we have more literature and more technology.

But I can't understand another thing. Why do the English-speaking countries have dialect and on top of that why do they keep them and don't try to erase them? Like Indians for example? senkulpa.gif

You could say the same about any language, so I'm not sure what your point is. And anyhow, I really don't think anyone's worried about this kind of thing.

So what form of English do you suggest we all adopt? And why? Everyone's perfectly happy speaking their own forms of English.

Dunno. If you ask Brits they will immediately 'British'. And maybe this time I would underpin them because in the end of the day the English language derives from England.

I am not that good at English but about the Indian English pronunciation ...is that speech of theirs a dialect or an accent?
I think they speak so ugly just because they have another mother tongue.

This is a ridiculous suggestion. There are many ways of speaking English and it's probably going to stay that way. If one form should become more dominant, then this will be a natural process, rather than something that is enforced.

You do realise that the man wasn't actually speaking English half the time?

ppk89:I think they speak so ugly just because they have another mother tongue.
Obviously, it's a matter of personal taste as to what is ugly or not, but I would rather choose not to go round telling people they have ugly accents. It's not very polite.

You haven't heard me talking - hopefully it wouldn't be too ugly for you.

Where exactly are you from?

geo63:It is up to esperanto-speakers (not esperantists, I think, they are too devoted for "fina venko") to show that the language is useful, not to fight with English learning/speaking community because it makes a bad picture of the language and its users.
Very well said. Although I wouldn't hijack the word 'Esperantist' to mean those obsessed with the 'fina venko'!

what 'BRICS' consider for the work languange(s) is not only what their native languages are, but also what is the best for them using in- and ex-organization. So, I don't think that Esperanto would has advantages for it.
I agree the words of Erinja.
