gianich73:Very humane point of view - so if children in Africa, daying from thirst, are no profit then let them die... Esperanto IS NO PROFIT. It is 100% free.geo63:But you are not a business man, Geo63.gianich73:... there is no profit and no one will do anything for free.I do many things for free without any profit.

geo63:I am saying why, in my opinion, they will not do it. I am not saying that it is ok not to do it because nobody will pay for it. I do not understand why you are misunderstanding me.gianich73:Very humane point of view - so if children in Africa, daying from thirst, are no profit then let them die... Esperanto IS NO PROFIT. gianich73:...I do not understand why you are misunderstanding me.Because I am a foreigner and I don't speak your language good enough, that is why.

geo63:And because you rush to make assumptions, I would say. English is not my mother tongue. I was not born in the United States and I was not born in an English speaking country.gianich73:...I do not understand why you are misunderstanding me.Because I am a foreigner and I don't speak your language good enough, that is why.

Let us not get off the main topic anyway.

ppk89:But would it be so expensive to translate a few sentences into E-o and then read them out?Mmm, that's not good. That probably shows demand for BBC to show less-used languages is waning, so EO's chances are pretty obscure now.
BBC closed a few language services a few years ago and so will do this year too.So I don't thing that there will be any for Eastern Europe at all.
Profit? How does BBC get profit from its service in Albanian or Macedonian?
EO's community is a tiny bit politically charged too, so they might peave off some.. "louder" users/viewers/listeners/readers.
I'd imagine language services in the UK will increasingly focus on migrants, immigrants and the celtic languages, so things like arabic, chinese, hindi, polish, perhaps german, welsh, gaelic, cornish, etc, and the latter are pushing it due to political reasons too.
Geo63:Very humane point of view - so if children in Africa, daying from thirst, are no profit then let them die... Esperanto IS NO PROFIT. It is 100% free.Exactly, unfortunately. Only those with the resources to be philanthropic can do so. But since EO doesn't directly save lives or anything miraculous like that, there's no way people would give it "charity". People would much rather sacrafice money for "necessities" like food and water for 3rd world countries, than for "luxuries", like non-essential language learning. A bit of a mouse-wheel - it just keeps going around and around. Esperanto's culture aspect is to try and promote equality, but the ideal place for EO to grow is a place where there is equality .
Perhaps if a govt had a culture department which gave grants and financial support for those promoting cultures including languages, that'd be viable.

I was not born in the United States and I was not born in an English speaking country.I was not born in any English speaking country either. I just hate this business points of view. Why? Some time ago Polish Radio Polonia were sending esperanto broadcasts. Everybody could listen within diameter of 2000 miles. Then came some stupid businessman and shut it down because it had been no profit (and because Zamenhof was Jude, not Polish) - the whole thing costed about $2000 - what money for a country like Poland, where many hundreds of thousands of dollars are wasted each day. That was a big shame for Polish government, no futher talking...

Vilius:As far as I know there were 3 persons, 4000 zl per month (~ $2000). Now Radio Polonia sends esperanto brodcasts in Internet, but it is not the same - many listeners (especially the old ones) do not use computers at all.geo63:{..}the whole thing costed about $2000{..}That's per month?
