What happened to ĥ? It's not on that keyboard layout.

My opinion is that diacritics should be made by the compose key. But for some reason this does not work on my PC. Therefore for now I will just use the x convention and when I am writing something serious, I will use Latex anyway, in which it is simply \^g, \^c etcetera. However, I do not know how to type the ŭ in Tex. Can anyone help me with that?

Thanks.

Hey guys.
I just found out yesterday how i could design my own keyboard under X (i work with ubuntu). so since i have a swiss keyboard layout, which is different than the english), i modified that one.
now i have the esperanto letters with diacritics on the same button as the basic letter itself. I just have to reach it with "alt gr + g" for ĝ, or "alt gr + shift + g" for Ĝ. so i have not to switch keyboards all the time.

The manipulation is quite easy! You can study the keyboard layouts in the directory: /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols. Note, that you can include designs and then alter them, and finally have to declare them (such as name[Groupe1]=..)

Then you have to tell X that there is another keyboard layout. You do that in /usr/shar/X11/rules/xorg.xml & xorg.lst (they are self-explaining)

be careful tough! And back the files up..

You could as well design a new keyboard instead of adding one. I edited the swiss-german (ch_de) keyboard-file and added a further designs (to the already existing 8 ridulo.gif I called it Switzerland - German, plus esperanto letters

I did something similar with the US keyboard layout. Since I use the Dvorak layout normally, I went into the layout and added the appropriate letters to the third level chooser (windows keys).
Though for some reason I still use the x system.
