1Guy1:Do you need to be able to type the hats on your keyboard, or does it recognise the x system? There's no way they are ever going to make Memrise recognise the 'x-system' because that is an utterly pointless thing to do. It's much easier for us to simply set up our own computers to use the x-system in any website or programme on our computers. This is very easy to do.
My Mac computer is set up with the x-system - fellow Lernu user, Miĥil, created the keyboard layout to enable this. So, I've been using this in Memrise with no problem at all.

ceigered:Even if you don't have Miĥil's system, macs are pretty darn easy to type in Esperanto on - just use US international and option+6 for hats and option+b for smiley faces/viking horns/gravity defying bananas.Using option keys really slows down the typing. I would hate typing in Esperanto, if that was the only method!

Still, I shouldn't be too critical. Most other things in the wordlist are helpful. Just one other major problem - the very confusing presentation of different ways of cooking meat. They give two words for rare meat and two for medium-cooked meat. I never know which one they are after! The only one I'm sure about is 'bien cuit' as that's the only option they give for well-done meat.
By the way, I just love the fact that 'la clef' has that 'f' at the end!

I prefer to imagine a picture of the thing in my mind whilst learning, or think about a situation when I might use the word. Those mnemonics only pollute the mind with all sorts of random garbage!

Chainy:Well, my typing speed is all over the place anyway so it doesn't really matter to me. It's more convenient though since I can use many accents for many different languages with the same layout. My list of usable layouts is already full with cyrillic, hiragana, chinese, greek, hebrew, korean and I think even Shavian as isceigered:Even if you don't have Miĥil's system, macs are pretty darn easy to type in Esperanto on - just use US international and option+6 for hats and option+b for smiley faces/viking horns/gravity defying bananas.Using option keys really slows down the typing. Anyway, i agree with you about these wordlists, some are really hastily put together, and it's hard to see the differences between a good and bad one until you've already gone through them, and there's few usage notes, and while some mnemonics are good others are just a stretch.
But hey, I'm remembering "klama", "mutce" and "barda" in Lojban (forgot how to use them though!), without thousands of posts on a forum dedicated to learning the language, so I'm sorta happy

Chainy:I just came across the French word 'y' and the translation was given as 'there'. Ok, fair enough, but then you click on the pronunciation and the woman says 'igrek'! (however you might write that). Oh dear...Yes, "y" means "there" but its pronunciation is like the letter "i" in french.
Exemple: I'll be there = J'y serai = Je serai là.
Chainy:By the way, I just love the fact that 'la clef' has that 'f' at the end! There are two ways to write the word "key" in french, "clé" et "clef", but the pronunciation is the same for the two words!Utterly bizarre spelling - I had no idea about that f until just now!
