RiotNrrd:Yes, it would be quite useful to promote fictional Esperanto stories. I.e. why people get interested to start attempts to speak Elvish? Probably Esperanto community could learn a lot of that entertainment languages how to promote Esperanto with some more entertainment inside. Laŭ mi, The little Prince could be one of that core Esperanto stories like Elvish is for Tolkins popular Elves stories. Does there excists an similar story but original Esperanto written?
There's lots of fans of various stories and story universes. They're often interested in the languages of the stories they like. So they'll search out things written about these languages (such as Anita Okrent's book), and, lucky for us, Esperanto often gets a mention. From what I've heard, Anita's book paints Esperanto in a positive light (I haven't read it myself, though).
'Non scholae, sed gaudio discimus.' 'Not school is the reason to learn Klingon, the involved fun is the reason to learn Klingon.'
Some Esperanto adoption of that: "Ne pri politika agado ni lernas Esperanton. Estas engaĝitan amuzon pri tio ni lernas Esperanto."

sudanglo:Esperanto has grown out of being a conlang - obviously..Many of these criticisms of other conlangs could also be levelled against Esperanto by people who are not already committed to it. In my view, therefore, we should be careful how we speak about them.

These are just classifications. Objecting to them is like objecting to the placing of humans amongst the great apes. Whether you like it or not is of little relevance.Hi Riot.
Doesn't it rather depend on the terrain of debate, whether it is useful or appropriate to consider two things as falling under the same umbrella.
I could say that a humans are just great apes (or indeed to use a larger category, just animals), but this would be counter-productive in discussions on morality or the organisation of our human affairs. It might be useful for biologists though.
But I would disagree on a factual level about Esperanto just being a conlang.
An idea for a language does not automatically merit it being described as a language.
This requires the establishment of a stable social consensus on usage and meaning among a significant body of users.
We obviously agree, however, in our irritation about Esperanto being bracketed with a fictional language like Klingon.

Esperanto is not a supported locale or keyboard in Linux operating system.

lgg:Then it seems you're using a different distribution than Ubuntu (from which my screenshots are). However my screenshots prove that there's at least one (major!) "Linux operating system" that does have an Esperanto translation.darkweasel:Does it? cannot see it, sorry.lgg:This sentence says a lot about the credibility of your continuous trolling on this forum.

I wonder what distribution you're using that doesn't have an Esperanto translation?

RiotNrrd:Why on earth are you continuing to engage with this person? In this case, because he posted blatant lies about Esperanto in Linux (which others might otherwise believe) and then called my correction inaccurate. I’m already ignoring nearly everything else by lgg, and you’re definitely right that everyone should be doing so.

darkweasel:However my screenshots prove that there's at least one (major!) "Linux operating system" that does have an Esperanto translation.Absolutely all Linux systems, regardless of the distribution, have access to Esperanto keyboard layouts, as well as the use of the x- or h-system via IBus.
Regarding a translation of the actual operating system itself, i.e. all the menu items on the screen etc, well that probably depends on the particular linux distribution.
As Darkweasel has pointed out, there is certainly an Esperanto version of Ubuntu.
