I was very taken with a little story that my 6yr old daughter read to me and I've attempted to re-tell it on my blog. I've reprodued my first effort here in the hope that my inevitable errors will be corrected. Thanks in advance!

La ĉielarko-fiŝo estis la plej bela fiŝo en la maro. Sed li estis malĝoja ĉar li havas nul amikojn. Li ne ludas kun la aliaj fiŝoj. Li kredis, ke li estis tro bela ludi. Li iris al la saĝo polpo kaj li demandis, Kial mi havas nul amikoj? La saĝo polpo diris al li ke li devas donaci ĉiom de liaj skviamoj al la aliaj fiŝoj. Certe, la ĉielarko-fiŝo ve volas fari tion.
Tiam, eta blua fiŝo petis lin, Bonvolu doni al mi skviamo. La ĉielarko-fiŝo pensis ke unu eta skviamo estus ne problemo. La eta blua fiŝo prenis skviamon kaj li foriris ĝoje. Tiame, la aliaj fiŝo venis kaj ili demandis, Bonvolu doni al mi unu skviamo. Al ĉiu, la ĉielarko-fiŝo donis skviamon ĝis li havis sole unu skviamo li mem.
Li estis jam ne la plej bela fiŝo en la maro. Sed li estis la plej ĝoja.

"ĉielarka fiŝo" sounds a bit better.

This is correct but I encourage you to use "peti al li" so that the request can take the object. With that form you would end up having two objects and it's less pleasant.

Bonvolu doni al mi skviamo.

"skvamon".

ke unu eta skviamo estus ne problemo

"ne estus problemo".

Tiame

"tiam". It is already an adverb.

la aliaj fiŝo

"aliaj fiŝoj"

ĝis li havis sole unu skviamo li mem.

"ĝis li mem havis nur unu skvamon"
"ĝis al li restis nur unu skvamo por si mem"

Li estis jam

"tiam", perhaps?

Re: "by the way" - I normally say "parenteze", and I have seen other people use it as well. It literally means "parenthetically" but it can be used with the same sense as "by the way".
