This one's not fancy, but I've found it useful.

I created a simple Web App which fronts a few of Lernu.net's features, Work of the Day, Vortaro and Word lookup by language. There are also links to Radio Verda and Esperanto Retradio offerings.

A Web App is made using HTML, CSS and JavaScript and runs on most browsers, desktop or mobile. The target was for mobile so that I could use it to lookup EO words while reading or away from my computer. Am now sharing with the EO Community, no cost and no registration.

Mobile EO

The iPhone/iPad users can use the 'Add to Home Screen' to create a quick launch button instead of typing the URL each time. Not sure how to do this on other mobile devices but should be doable. Post if you know how.

The ESPDIC project is a downloadable Esperanto-English dictionary with over 32,000 words.

http://www.denisowski.org/Esperanto/Esperanto.html

It's a simple (UTF8) text file, which means you can open it in almost any text/word processing application.

And since it's freely available using the Creative Commons license, you could convert it to work in any dictionary application/tool you might want to use.

I haven't put a "search" function on the website yet (it's on my things-to-do list), but if you open the .txt file in your browser you can search it using your brower's "search" function.

I downloaded it to my nook e-reader. I use the search function to find words. It finds Esperanto as well as Englis. Only problem is that the formatting makes the text wrap around. I'm trying to see if I can change that somehow.

The ESPDIC format is simply :

Esperanto : English (newline)

Since it's just a plain text file, you could just insert newlines every N characters so the text wraps where you want it to.

This is the reason I formatted ESPDIC the way I did : it's easy to modify even with simply text/word processing tools (i.e. you don't have to be a programmer).

[You could also do a search-and-replace to turn all the "special" chars into plain ASCII : cx, gx, jx, sx : that might make searching easier in some applications]

Glad to hear you got it working on the Nook!

Amike,

Paul

What mean is that instead of getting:

Esperanto word : English word

Esperanto word : English word

Esperanto word : English word

etc.

It wraps around and looks like:

Esperanto word : English word Esperanto word : English word Esperanto word : English word Esperanto word : English word Esperanto word : English word etc.

I can still find words using the search function, but its sort of bare bones. Otherwise i like the dictionary for it's comprehensive content.
