I may have succeed in finally getting GT (Eng-Esp-o) to cope with 'Fruit-flies like bananas' - a phrase which it still gets wrong in French and German - but I am not sure.

Plus there seems to be a problem in replacing several words together or the whole of a hyphenated word, or telling it that a word in the translation should be dropped.
See if you can get it to learn that Fruit flies like bananas should be Fruktomuŝoj ŝatas bananojn, and tell me how you get on.
Close and re-open the programme, and report if it has learnt. I've found that it remembers changes for that session and then forgets them.

It would seem dangerous to simply allow anyone and everyone to "teach" Google Esperanto and have it immediately accept whatever anyone tells it. Someone with an anti-Esperanto streak could just sit there messing things up on purpose (yes, I know that could NEVER happen on the internet, but still...)
It's also possible that it won't incorporate suggestions until it gets them (at least) several times, from several sources.

These "translation machines" should be consdered just as a simple help ("-ilo") as it is a typewriter (well, not exactly), and the typewriter will not help you to make a good essay or novel

For instance in Spanish we have only one word for boring/bored, buat we cann very exactly make tell the difference, so For "The are borin" = "Son aburridos"; "The are bored" = "ESTÁN aburridos"; or for "What shall I do now? = "Y ahora ¿qué hago?", which probably would be translated as "What do I do now", as in Spanish the difference betwwen the present simple and present continuous is frequently used indifferently. The T. machine, nevertheless is very useful to save time in typing, of of course you must knos the language to make a good translation.

And that is something to worry about even if there were no malevolent trolls around to throw a spanner into the works.
Nevertheless when I try to tell the software that it has got something wrong, I am affronted if it seems to ignore my advice.
What is the translators toolkit I have seen referred to? Does this allow one to identify oneself as an authority?
The tick mark in the bottom right-hand corner of the translation window allows voting on the translation (helpful/ not helpful/ rude). Is that a request for compliments, or a grading system?
Perhaps GT only accepts a revision if subsequently it gets enough 'helpful' votes.
May I encourage everybody to have a go with test sentences and report back.
