Some related Qs: an American friend I met a few weeks ago in London suggested that I wait a bit before making any decisions about buying a Kindle, presumably because there will be newer and better versions coming out presently. Can Kindle files be converted easily to files that can be read easily by other e-readers? Can pdf books in Esperanto, of which we do have a few, be converted to Kindle files?

My dad doesn't know it yet but he's getting a Kindle Fire for his birthday. Presumably he would never ever visit an Esperanto forum so I'm safe in saying this. I'd be happy to put his Fire through its paces with some Esperanto books, as soon as it's been officially given to him (in about a week).

I am getting to the point of buying a Kindle myself, and don't want to shell out and then discover some obvious disadvantage, or inconvenience.
I guess I'll be mainly using it for lifting off the net early Esperanto titles.

In principle one could upload two versions, the original Esperanto text for historical research on the evolution of the language and also the polished translation. The latter benefiting from the richer vocabulary of later years and the removal of malglataĵoj.
It has bugged me for some time that there is a substantial wealth of translated literature (titles well worth reading) the enjoyment of which is marred by the quality of the translation.
I was very irritated comparing the 1930's Esperanto translation of Murder on the Orient Express with the translation into French, which read so much more smoothly.

But if I may speculate about future Kindle Versions, they may have perfected colour e-ink technology, enabling us to read pdf comics in colour!
