Saluton. I was looking through some pages for musical instruments on Vikipedio and I was disappointed by how few pages there were. I want to either suggest some for creation or write a few myself, but I'm unsure how a number of the instruments would be translated. I searched for translations (with the search engine set to multiple languages), but came up with absolutely nothing for many.

Take for instance the Mexican "guitarron." In Spanish, this literally means "big guitar," but it is a very different instrument from a guitar. I was thinking of using grandgitaro or gitarego if I were to derive the name from the inherent meaning, but I feel those may be too vague. Alternately, using gitarono would be extremely similar to the original name, but I'm not sure how appropriate it would be to do that.

Opinions? Is there already a convention for "Esperantizing" less widespread/known musical instruments?

The Popularmuzika Terminaro en Esperanto may also have names for some instruments.

If, after trying all well-known dictionaries, you still do not find any suitable translation and cannot create one from preexisting Esperanto roots, then do apply rule 15 and borrow a word yourself, checking the different Wikipedia entries to see what is internationally the most common form. For example, that might give gitarono for your "guitarrón".
