Bah! Morman missionaries knock on the door fairly regularly over here and their Dutch is invariably bad. And I actually quite enjoy using slang to make the conversation even harder.

Which is just what you would expect, Vestitor. It might be true, if you narrow the field of communication, that perhaps some people could learn to cope in a foreign language within that constraint.

But in general if someone maintains that they learnt to speak X (some foreign language) in 3 months, then the appropriate response is 'I don't believe you'.

There is an old joke:

A foreign worker had learnt how to order 'fish and chips' in the works canteen. But growing tired of a certain monotony in his diet, he consulted a dictionary and boldly, one day, asked for steak and kidney pudding.

The response came 'I'm afraid carrots is off today, love. Ok, if I give you cauliflower with that instead'

The man shifted uneasily from one foot to another in hesitant incomprehension and finally replied 'Er, fish and chips, please.'

Please open up a new thread with these discussions! Mormons and 3 months to fluency are pretty much as irrelevant as you can get in a discussion about proofreading a book... (the book is called the "Language Hacking Guide" and does not discuss or promote the concept of fluency in 3 months in any way. This is the name of my blog and as such is not pertinent to this thread)

Sorry I asked about the certificate; I didn't do that in the parallel Esperanto thread.

So far I have a couple of applicants who I'll talk with via email, so I may not need to continue investigations in other places.

Simmer down amigo, the thread made it to two pages by being derailed. I'm fairly certain that the folks with interest in the project already visited by now.
Sudanglo was pretty explicit that the likelihood of finding a translator for a book on what is essentially a learning site for the same language was pretty slim.

Pretty slim, but despite that, I believe I have my man! An experienced Esperanto translator with the KER C1 diploma okulumo.gif Success!

Glad to be able to say I'll have a proofread high quality Esperanto translation! Thanks for the input.

If it takes 3 months to speak fluently a foreign language, how long it takes to be a KER-C1 certified translator?
