Don't underestimate the German compounding. I think there is no shorter way than Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitänswitwenrentengesetz to express "law regulating pensions for widows of captains of the Danube Steamboat Travel Society". okulumo.gif
Mark Twain once famously said that "Whenever the literary German dives into a sentence, that is the last you are going to see of him till he emerges on the other side of his Atlantic with his verb in his mouth."

He said a great many more humourous things about the German language, but I am going to hold back on them. This thread after all is supposed to be about adverbs, not German. ridulo.gif

Erinja skribis: "I've been tempted to bring a form of "senti la mankon de..." into English. To miss something isn't quite the same, in my mind, as 'feeling its absence'."

darkweasel skribis: "And Esperanto made me want an equivalent of ial in German. ridulo.gif Aus irgendeinem Grund (for some reason) just isn't very compact."

This is how Esperanto is going to take over the world.
Not by competing with other languages but by having them adopt Esperanto words.
Eventually everyone will speak Esperanto without realising it.
Rule 15 in reverse.
