Don't underestimate the German compounding. I think there is no shorter way than Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitänswitwenrentengesetz to express "law regulating pensions for widows of captains of the Danube Steamboat Travel Society".

Mark Twain once famously said that "Whenever the literary German dives into a sentence, that is the last you are going to see of him till he emerges on the other side of his Atlantic with his verb in his mouth."

He said a great many more humourous things about the German language, but I am going to hold back on them. This thread after all is supposed to be about adverbs, not German.
