Repeated adjectives or passive participles.

Sometimes in English, a word is implied as repeated, but not actually written twice. Is this correct for E-o as well?

Examples: "Until John is happy, Mary cannot be." This implies: ""Until John is happy, Mary cannot be happy."
Would this correctly be written "Ĝis Johano estas feliĉa, Maria ne povas esti", or does that imply something else?

Here's one with a passive participle: "Until love is attained, peace cannot be."
Would this be: "Ĝis amo estas atingata, paco ne povas esti"?

I don't think it's possible to put it that way in Esperanto. I'm not sure I'd use 'ĝis' either.

"Maria ne povas esti feliĉa, dum Johano ne estas feliĉa."

Or perhaps:

"Maria estos feliĉa nur, kiam Johano estos feliĉa."

- Maybe you could substitute the second case of 'feliĉa' in those sentences with 'tia', but I'm not certain about this.

OR

2. Oni atingos la pacon nur, kiam oni atingos la amon.

Yeah, strictly speaking, I think that means that until John is happy, Maria can't exist.

That said, I think you can use "ĝis". That's what "ĝis" is for, right? Like in "ĝis la revido".

I think to do it right, you just need to add a "tia" to the end, or better, "same".

"Ĝis Johano estas feliĉa, Maria ne povas esti tia."

"Ĝis Johano estas feliĉa, Maria ne povas esti same."

Although I've never seen the usage before, the sentence that popped into my head was:

Ĝis Johano feliĉas, Maria ne ankaŭas.

I would consider the construction questionable, but I kind of like it.

It's the choice of tense that put me off using 'ĝis'. The following is easy to translate with ĝis:

Maria won't be happy until John is = Maria ne estos feliĉa, ĝis John estos feliĉa.

But the sentence we're looking at is a little different:

Maria can't be happy until John is.
