J_Marc:I wonder who is on the receiving end of your stinging words, jkph! A character in a story, perhaps?
Just so.

pdenisowski:Example : I sometimes use the phrase "in my copious free time" in English. A colleague of mine asked me to translate this into German, but I had a very hard time coming up with a way to translate "copious" into German and maintain the (ironic) sense of "abundant, much more than I could possibly ever need or use up." The closest literal translation I could get was "meine reichliche Freizeit", but I don't feel that this expression has the same ironic/sarcastic sense of the English expression.

In the end I decided that "müßige Stunden" (idle hours) was a better translation, even though it doesn't contain either the words "copious" or "free time".
How about "endlose" or "unbegrenzte Freizeit?" Those would maintain the irony implied in "copious" free time, I think.
