It's always seemed normal to me that the native speaker has to "make allowances" to a non-native speaker.
Actually, I've never found precise pronunciation and correct grammar to be off-putting, if that's what you mean.

As far as the necessities of life go, telephones, computers, automobiles, televisions, electric kitchen appliances, air conditioning, (and so on, and so on) are not "needed." People lived and thrived for eons without them. But they sure do make life more pleasant. I believe that the same is true for an international language.
