I suspect you misuse conditional(-us). It should be used only to indicate conditionality
No!

Ĉu vi povus pasigi (transdoni) la sukeron.

Devus as 'should' (a weak form of must) is perfectly ordinary in Esperanto.
I have a direct command to the contrary from the Esperanto course in the Internet created by Marko Rauhamaa. He says that it is ordinary, but plainly wrong. Link
How can it be commonplace in respected authors and wrong?

Maybe the language have changed then and Rauhamaa teaches the original version. I suspect the wider use of "-us" favours Europeans who use it in their native languages and who have damaged Esperanto in that respect.

Another suggestion: Mi devus fari kuron. If you are talking about a regular or daily run you could expand it to Mi devus fari mian cxiutagan kuron or Mi devus fari mian kutiman kuron.

I wonder what happened to the button for changing cx to the E-o character, BTW. Melburno notepad also seems to be kaput malgajo.gif

Leke:If I wanted to say, "I should go for a run", I read it could be like...
Mi iru por kuri.
Is this correct? Also, how about...
Mi devus iri por kuri.
Would that be understood?
It really depends on what your are trying to say. If you are saying is sort of a what-if, hypothetical statement (i.e. "I should go for a run but I probably won't even make it off the couch" ), then devus would work. But if you are saying "I really must go for a run", then I would go with the first or maybe even devas iri...
