Hello, guys!

This is my first post (in a long time), so pardon me if I'm doing something wrong =s

I just wanted to know if I could/should use "al" with "rigardu". For instance:

Rigardu la hundon !

Or

Rigardu al la hundon !

If only one of them is correct, why? If both are correct, is there a difference?

Thanks in advance!

-n is never used with "al"

Therefore, "rigardu la hundon!" and "rigardu al la hundo!" are correct but *al la hundon is wrong.

Rigardu la hundon is more like - look at the dog! Rigardu al la hundo is more like - look in the direction of the dog! (but the actual thing you're looking at might not be the dog)

rev_peterson:Rigardu al la hundon !
Rigardu al la hundo en la okulojn.
Look into dog's eyes.

bryku:Rigardu al la hundo en la okulojn.
Look into dog's eyes.
Why wouldn't "look into the dog's eyes" be "Rigardu la okulojn de la hundo" or "Rigardu en la okulojn de la hundo"?

Unless I'm missing something these would work too, though maybe "rigardu la okulojn de la hundo" doesn't necesarily imply that your eyes meet the dog's eyes in a reciprocal stare. You could be examining its eyes while it's sleeping for example.

Because "en la okulojn" means the direction, not just the eyes. I will not argue, however, I am not English.
