johmue:MY opinion isn't what the problem is. it's the opinion of mainstreamists, who most definitely consider poly's to be crackpots and stranguloj.......orthohawk:Oh, great! Let's alienate even MORE of the mainstream population by inviting even MORE crackpots and stranguloj into Esperantujo! So polyamorous people are crackpots to you?

orthohawk:I actually would like this kind of close minded people to stay away from Esperantujo. So I am fine with inviting polys, LGBTs and other of mainstream people to Esperantujo. On the one hand it makes the whole movement more diverse and more interesting. If it keeps close minded people, who consider people of different lifestyles crackpots, out of the movement, no problem to me.johmue:MY opinion isn't what the problem is. it's the opinion of mainstreamists, who most definitely consider poly's to be crackpots and stranguloj.......orthohawk:Oh, great! mjdh1957:I think a large number of people, both hetero and homosexual, are polyamorous without being honest about it. So it is quite a 'mainstream' activity. To me honesty and consent are crucial features or polyamory. If you're not honest, it's not polyamory but monogamy with cheating, which is indeed probably quite mainstreamish.

Esperanto is generally pretty welcoming of people who do life differently than the mainstream. The big difference between an Esperanto speaker who is normal and the "stranguloj" is really not their lifestyle choices -- honestly it's their social skills. The Esperanto speakers who leave you with stories to tell friends later are not the vegans or the gays or the polyamorists or the ones who believe in the health benefits of the all-air diet. Instead it's the person who follows you everywhere, the person who won't leave you alone about their political opinions (which may be mainstream!), the person who feels they have to accost every person on the street about Esperanto, etc. There are few people in Esperanto that I'd consider crackpots but these people also fall on the spectrum of poor social skills, rather than simply beliefs I find crazy or offensive (I am actually pretty friendly with some Esperantists whose beliefs I find crazy and/or offensive - I simply avoid those topics with those friends).

erinja:Namely - these things come up when they come up, but no one is wearing a badge that says "polyamorous", nor is anyone handing out pamphlets pressuring anyone else to do something they don't want to do.There are people wearing polyamory badges on JES. Maybe that does not suffice to call it "vocal" because on JES they are handing out tiny thumbnail sized sticker badges about all kinds of stuff to put on your name badge. Among them is one for Polyamory and also for LGBT but also many others like Musician, Scientist, Raumist, etc.
It also became quite common to have discussion groups about Polyamory on Eo-events. Actually I thought the topic is already outdated, but then somebody asked me to lead such a discussion group on IJK last year.

But orthohawk phrased it, as if polyamorists by themselfs are crackpots to him.
