Does the Esperanto word "se" sound like the English word "say"?

I'd say, yes, without the "i" sound at the end.

Duko (Prikaži profil) 07. julij 2014 10:17:10

Sounds like "se" in "seven".

johmue (Prikaži profil) 07. julij 2014 10:18:24

Or like "said" without the "d".

With an "s" and an "e". How else should it be spoken?

That's how it sounds to me, too - rhymes with head.

Optimally it should sound like the "se" in "seven" or the "sai" in "said"; however, with the differences between the vowels in Esperanto, thee could probably get away with saying it as the Spanish word "se" or the French word/syllable "sé"

orthohawk:or the French word/syllable "sé"
No. The french "é" is what we in German call a "closed vowel". Esperanto vowels are supposed to be "open". In French you would write that as "è"

if thee would take the time to read my post carefully, thee would see that I reinforced the "open e" pronunciation.
the closed e pronunciation while not OPTIMAL is ACCEPTABLE if that's the way one's vocal tract works.

Safer to assume that the O.P. doesn't speak French or Spanish.
