Does the following translation look correct? Is there a better way to write it?
Eniru la nova teksto ke vi sxatas oni vidi kiam oni regardos al vi.
for:
Enter the new text you'd like others to see when they look at you.

sudanglo:Whilst the 'text that you want to be seen' can be rendered by la teksto kiun vi volas aperigi, it seems that a translation that more closely follows the English structure ie la teksto kiun vi deziras esti vidata is not legitimate, to judge by the lack of any examples in the Tekstaro.I would say the reason is pragmatical. As you have already checked in the tekstaro the subject of the infinitive after "voli" and "deziri" always refers back to the subject of the main clause.
However, that would be less clumsy than la teksto kiun (pri kiu) vi volas ke ĝi estu vidata.
Could some grammarian state the grammatical reason why kiun Y deziras esti X-ata should be avoided.
Hence, "mi deziras vin bati" is "I want to hit you" and not "I want you to hit (something)."
Strangely enough, "peti" works like in English:
Z:Mi petas vin sidiĝi, sinjoroj!I personally wouldn't have expected this construction.
It should follow, that "Mi petas vin bati lin." is grammatical, too. Or "Ŝi igis lin peti vin igi min bati ilin."
sudanglo:la teksto kiun (pri kiu) vi volas ke ĝi estu vidata"la teksto pri (I would use de) kiu vi volas ke ĝi estu vidata" sounds fine to me, albeit clumbersome.
With "la teksto kiun vi volas ke ĝi estu vidata" I don't know where to place the "kiun", i.e. whose accusative it is. I would use either "?la teksto kiu vi volas ke estu vidata" (kiu is the subject of estu vidata) or "?la teksto kiun vi volas ke oni vidu" (kiun is the object of oni vidu). Although I am not sure if in Esperanto the relative pronoun can "penetrate" into a subclause (ke) inside the relative clause.
In Spanish it works: "Este es el pan que quiero que coman." (?Tiu estas la pano kiun mi volas ke vi manĝu.)
In German it doesn't: "*Das ist das Brot, das ich will, dass ihr esst." It must be: "Das ist das Brot, von dem ich will, dass ihr es esst." (Which brings us back to you solution with pri kiu).
