In English we say like "th-that's not fair".

But the - tends to mean an omission/abbreviation (S-ro) in EO. In this comic I'm reading in Japanese, they put a space (th that's not fair). Probably some people also put commas (th, that's not fair).

So how should I write it?

Here's how I did it...

Rats. I was hoping the picture wouldn't be too big.

Hyphens are used for abbreviations such as s-ro or E-o, and also for putting words together, as in Esperanto-asocio. But I don't think the use to show stuttering would be easily confused with either of those uses.

Christa627, you can just link to the image instead (or resize it) : P

Even though it was just a guess before, now I actually saw someone using commas in English (in a story) for stuttering, and then I found another person using spaces in English (in a comic translation)...

We don't ever use hyphens to abbreviate in English, so I feel like it might be a bit like interference. I was just thinking that if any novice Esperanto-learner sees a hyphen, they're going to think it's an abbreviation for something.
