johmue: What is your doctoral topic?
Doctor of Education--topic is English as a second language with emphasis on developing academic langauge skills in a second language to enable second language learners (who may have never developed academic language skills in their first language) to go to college/university. Many immigrants to the United States learn enough English to get by or for meetig daily survival needs, but would like to go on to school if they could only get past the language barrier--obviously, I'm excited about my topic and I'm actively looking for input.

Polaris:
My point is simply that if we want to see Esperanto respected and taken seriously, then we have to be known for something other than disreputable sexual abandon and fringe-group causes.
Actually I think being known for that would vastly improve our image in the public's eye. Right now we're seen as having fewer speakers than Klingon, and as being the same types of people who speak Klingon.

I think you should go public with your criticism of Esperanto. Go all over the news and radio. Please. We will have two million speakers by next year.

+1

Esperanto is the language of porn.

The next 50 people to successfully complete the advanced level course on Lernu will get a free pornograph 1). okulumo.gif

Ibrahim, Joshua, Peter, and Louise, will all join in publicly denouncing such depravity, while privately undetaking a crash course in Esperanto.

1) "What's a pornograph?" you ask. Well if you need to ask then you don't need to know.

then you may want to read my dissertation - published in 2007: Belongingness and Integrative Motivation in Second Language Acquisition - in which I published the findings of surveys among Spanish-language learners of English as a second language and their views of the target language speakers (English-speaking Americans) - with regards to their respective progress in acquiring American English

You and leporinjo are so right and the answer is so simple and obvious: Porn.

What made VHS win against other competing (and better) video cassette systems? Porn!
What made internet access affordable for many households? Porn!
What made broad band internet commonly available? Porn movies!
What will make Esperanto the killer IAL? Porn!

There is just one minor detail left to be solved: Esperanto is a language and porn isn't that much about dialogues... I think two projects should go hand in hand: a) promoting Esperanto via porn; and b) banning fast-forward and mute buttons on an international level.

It would help people learn the imperative.

Anyway, just have a look at Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. People are motivated to fulfill their needs for the purposes of survival. If Esperanto can help in some way then it will win.

Down with hierarchies!
