hel' clair (qui n’est pas obscur) | clear, glaring | hell, grell | яркій | jasny, jaskrawy.
lum' luire, lumière | light | leuchten | свѣтить | świecić.I would conclude from there definitions that helo is something like "clarity", "glare" (a strong and dazzling light); while "lumo" is simply any light (source of illumination). Cf German "Helle/Helligkeit" and "Licht" or Spanish "claro/claridad" and "luz".
La helo de la ĉambro estis ŝuldata al la lumo, kiu enfalis tra la fenestro.

Alkanadi:How would we then describe the light from the sun? Does the sun produce Helo or Lumo? The EM radiation within the visible spectrum is called lumo.
Depending on the intensity, frequency, etc of such radiation which falls onto our retina, we perceive a certain amount of helo.
So, the sun produces lumo, which then can produce helo in a given place.
