Christa627:Yes, I draw this mainly from my experience living in a very conservative state among conservative people. And, in my understanding of the terms, I agree with many conservative and many liberal values/ideals, so I'd rate myself as a somewhat fair judge. The large number of states where gay marriage is opposed by conservatives is a great objective example of this. Heck, just look at Russia and their laws against gays. A lot of intolerance also shows its face in housing and school districting, where people use money/power to keep out the poor and lower-class people. For what it's worth I also would say intolerance is not limited to any political "side". You can take my comments as jabs from the left, but I can assure you I am no-one's ally. I have abstained from voting since my first time in the '08 elections because I can't stand either major party, and it is a literal waste of my time to worry about politics when my vote is drowned out by the majority.kaŝperanto: Conservatives are OK with diversity "as long as it's somewhere else".Says...? I mean, besides you?
And I must also point out that "conservatism" is a constantly changing term. Segregationists were conservative, as were slave holders of the south, or people who were against womens' suffrage, and so on. I highly doubt that you would agree with many "conservative" ideas of the past, so the term is essentially meaningless unless you define it at every use. I'm with Washington on this one; there should be no political parties.

Elhana2:Hogwash! You apparently don't inform yourself anywhere outside of the RasPutin Propaganda machine. I have spoken with men who came here from Russian who were persecuted by the police there. These are real people, not RTV actors.kaŝperanto:...Russia and their laws against gaysThere are no "laws against gays" in Russia. Stop spreading FUD, please.

A few key excerpts:
"Russia’s law prohibiting “the promotion of non-traditional sexual relationships,” better known as the “gay propaganda law,” was passed last summer. Ostensibly focused on “protecting children from information advocating for a denial of traditional family values,”"
A newspaper in the far eastern Khabarovsk region was fined for publishing an interview with a teacher who said he was fired for being gay. The manufacturer of a children’s game that included portrayals of same-sex relationships was fined. And authorities have opened an investigation into a series of children’s books by acclaimed novelist Lyudmila Ulitskaya because, prosecutors claim, they promote tolerance of gay relationships.Apparently you are brainwashed or are deliberately denying the facts based on a purely semantic argument that the word "gay" doesn't appear in the law.

robbkvasnak:And, yes, I am now a "moocher" since I was fired for being gay... I volunteer, teaching other moochers, illegal immigrants, English.Whoa, dude; calm down. First off, I never said anything about moochers. I never said you were a moocher; I never said the immigrants were moochers. But I do have a lot of relatives who definitely are moochers.
robbkvasnak: From down here, where I have been kicked by a rabid Protestant part-time ministerAnd I had my life wrecked by a panel of Reformed Baptist elders. What has that to do with anything?
robbkvasnak: So you support the exceptional party with their exceptional American views of us moochers and you who have pulled yourselves up by the boot straps and become rich.Oh, yeah; that's just me - rolling in the dough like crazy. You can tell by the way we squeeze nine people into a two-bedroom house, drive a van that bears obvious marks of its past life as a Super Shuttle, and the fact that I'm still wearing the same clothes I did when I was twelve. And how we get almost all of our food for free from a food co-op. And by how my brother drives such a fancy car, with its bumper held on by oh-so-stylish duct tape! And the only reason he even has that is that he got it for free from a guy who didn't want it anymore. Ah, the life of luxury!!
As for political parties, I am not associated with the Republicans. I'm with the Constitution party. And if there's one thing Obama doesn't care a pin for, it's the Constitution.
robbkvasnak:Congrats! I am surprised that you deem Esperanto as worthy as Toki Pona. And what does Toki Pona have to do with anything either? I didn't learn Esperanto for political reasons; I've said that a billion times. I don't learn any language for political reasons; I learn languages because I like them. I'm thinking about learning Korean; what does that say about me?

This political flamewar (like most flamewars) is both predictable and pointless. Nobody's opinion is going to change no matter how much the rhetoric is turned up.
We can save ourselves some time right now by putting aside the flamethrowers and instead coming up with some constructive insight that actually advances the conversation - which I previously found quite interesting. Please.

The homosexualism propaganda law does not discriminate gays in any way. There is no law which restrict their rights basing on their sexual orientation.

Looks like discrimination to me, if it isn't also illegal to promote standard sexual relationships.
