Faciligi or fari pli facila would convey the meaning of "dumb down", but not the perjorative nuance. How would you translate the following into Esperanto?:

"A-level Mathematics has been dumbed down since I was at school."

(For those outside the UK, A-levels are pre-university examinations. The International Baccalaureate is offered by a minority of schools instead).

Faciligaĉi?
Stultfaciligi?

richardhall (Vise profilen) 5. jul. 2015 12.09.07

How about trofaciligi

How about stultumigi, stultumi, stultecigi?

I like yyaann's suggestion, though it is the adjective that is aĉa, making badly simple, making badly easy.

facilacxigi, simplacxigi would be my suggestions.

Hmm it's tough to nail the nuance here. It may be just me but I feel like acx might be a bit too strong for this instance...perhaps "trosimpligi" does the trick?

I'm not sure dumbing something down is always pejorative, but it is definitely slangy and informal. Maybe even a tad low-brow (thinking mostly of Homer Simpson repeatedly asking "Could you dumb it down a shade?" ). To me, the main idea is to use simpler language, to stick to the small words, etc. So maybe something like malĵargonigi or paroli vulgare?

I'm not sure about using tro, because that doesn't seem quite right if the dumbing down is requested (why would you want someone to do too much of something?), but maybe using pli or plu as a prefix instead? If you wanted to play a bit of a word game with it, you could start with klarigi, and make your way through pliklarigi, pluklarigi, and eventually end up with plejklarigi (or troklarigi I suppose, if you don't care for the alliteration).

Miland: How would you translate the following into Esperanto?: "A-level Mathematics has been dumbed down since I was at school."
nivel-malaltigo, nivel-falo.

Kompare kun kiam mi estis lernejano, la nuna ekzameno A-nivela en Matematiko fariĝis B-nivela. Ĝi postulas multe malpli da scio.

Ankaŭ la televidaj programoj nun ŝajnas multe malpli kleraj, kvazaŭ nur por stultuloj.

Mi tre bedaŭras tiun ĝeneralan senklerigon en multaj sferoj de la aktuala vivo.

Tiun fenomenon mi nomus stultifado.

Wrong language, Sudanglo! okulumo.gif

I would translate - less litterally - by:
"la nivelo A de matematiko malaltiĝis de post mia lerneja tempo / de kiam mi estis en lernejo"

If one wants to be pejorative, I would propose "alkreteniĝi", "plistultiĝi", ktp.

Porstultuligi?
