How to say "crochet" in Esperanto? You know, where you have a long plastic or metal hook, and you use it to make things out of yarn?

Some people say "krocxeti" and some say "hoktriki"

Dankon! "Hoktriki" ("hook-knit" ) seems like it would get the idea across, at least to those familiar with the art. ridulo.gif

There is a Facebook group for Esperantist knitters and crocheters, if you're interested.

The lernu-vortaro has the translation [de]"häkeln" ~ "kroĉi". Is it incorrect?

EDIT: There's also en entry for the monolingual output.

No, it should be kroĉeti.
BTW: I've just found ou that kroĉet' in fact is one root, I'd always thought that it were kroĉ'et', maybe because German häkeln has just this structure. You never stop learning...

Unless it was included in the 9-a oficiala aldono, "krocxeti" is unofficial. It's probably better (in lignt of the issue raised in the "Piron's dialects" thread) to say "hoktriki".

I don't have any skin in this game, as I don't crochet (although I do have a crochet hook I use for repairing pulled threads in the knit sweaters I have).

But *if* I got a vote, which I really don't, I'd vote for hoktriki, which to my mind suitably describes crocheting without requiring a separate root.
