Saluton! I'm a beginner in Esperanto (which is why this thread is here and not in the Esperanto fourms) so in addition to completed some online courses I'm trying to develop my skills by translating. I'm working on translating a english (and spanish) webcomic that welcomes translations, called Great Moments in Leftism, its short but uses language both specific and slang so should hopefully be an educational challenge.

However I'm already at a bit of an obstacle, namely how to translate the word leftism, none of the dictionaries I have recognise it. So far I've come up with Maldekstraismo is that workable or is something else needed? This is kind of a problem since politics has a nasty habit of multiplying ism's and I'll need to translate dozens more in order to get it to work.

My first attempt. English original,

Any advice would be welcome

socialismo?

jagr2808:socialismo?
It wouldn't include other things under an umbrella term like: anarchism, syndicalism, social democrat etc, all in one term.

I would say that syndicalism and social democrats falls under the term socialism, and that anarchi can be on the right as well as the left. So I see the terms almost identical, but maldekstrismo is also a good word I guess.

Livismo

Than you all, Maldekstrismo seems to be the most functional, so for the title I have Bonega Momentoj en Maldekstrima. Are there any bits of dialogue in the comic that seem strange compared to the English original?

Cheers, changes made.

jagr2808:...and that anarchi can be on the right as well as the left.
It most certainly isn't and never was, but its hijacking by the people who now call themselves 'Libertarians' has given the impression of it being so. They seem to me to be not about power reduction from wherever it emanates, but just obsessed with abolishing governments. So often useful idiots for big business.
