I have not been able to find a Translation for Ledger on lernu or google translate and the ESPDIC only comes out with

magneta kontokarto : magnetic ledger card
magnetkarta aŭtomato : magnetic ledger card reader/encoder

And i don't know what it is.

You know like an accountants ledger?

How do you communicate that its a book of accounting? listing the transactional values of a account?

It's baffling. I can't for the life of me fathom how this translation was arrived at.

Probably following French (grand-livre) or German (das Hauptbuch), grootboek in Dutch .

Definition of ledger:
A book or other collection of financial accounts of a particular type.

You could probably say this I think:
Financlibro de kontoj

Kontolibro was the first thing that came to my mind. But kontaro might do, especially for an electronic file. Benson has kontlibro.
