For some random reason, it seems that people think esperantists are weird. I don't know why

Anyway, I find Evildea its goals quite interesting: 'Mi partoprenos la 101-an Universalan Kongreson (UK) de Esperanto en Slovakio kaj videoblogos kaj eldonos ĝin en mia kanalo.' / 'I will participate the 101th UK and will publish videoblogs of it at my (Youtube) channel'.

Alkanadi:Esperanto finally has a mascot. It's actually the Duolingo mascot, not an Esperanto mascot...

Alkanadi:Why would that be? I would think Duolingo and Spanish would be synonyms, because there are so many more students using the course to use Spanish.Kladdkaka:It's actually the Duolingo mascot, not an Esperanto mascot...Duolingo and Esperanto are becoming synonyms.

Alkanadi:Polish, Turkish and Irish were all released at least a year after Esperanto and have more learners. Esperanto is only the 14th in the popularity stakes.Kladdkaka:It's actually the Duolingo mascot, not an Esperanto mascot...Duolingo and Esperanto are becoming synonyms.
However...I think the implication was that Esperanto is becoming synonymous with Duolingo, as in people going to Duolingo to learn Esperanto before they go anywhere else.
I don't know how anyone could possibly know this.

Then people associated the two together.
The same is happening for "Duolingo" and "Esperanto".

Alkanadi:No, I actually have no idea what you are talking about. How do you manage to get so much wrong in such a short post?erinja:Why would that be? People linked Islam and terrorism long before Bush was ever president. I remember the day of the Oklahoma City bombing, people were saying it was likely Islamic terrorists (They were probably thinking of the WTC bombing). Of course today we know that Oklahoma City had no links to Islam whatsoever. This stereotype didn't need help from Bush (who was years from the presidency) or from the Fox news channel (which did not yet exist).
And no one links Duolingo and Esperanto, except for a few language fans who maybe never heard of it till they saw it show up in the list. You might think it's a lot of people but it is actually a minuscule proportion of the world's population and only a small proportion of people who have heard of Esperanto through any means.
