One of my Esperanto tutors told me that Pastry Chef would be:

Literally that's a combination of ĉefo (boss, chief) and 'cake' and isto (profession), so to me that seems to imply that this guy/chick (can't be sexist lango.gif) is the head pastry chef. Ĉef-, according to the eo-eo dictionary, says that 'ĉef' is a prefix meaning (more or less) great importance.

I still can't get over it that I can't find 'pastry' in the English-eo vortaro to the right. However, in the French-eo I looked up Pâtisserie and found 'kukaĵo'.

On that note, maybe 'kukaĵisto' or 'ĉefkukaĵisto' or 'ĉefkukaĵkuiristo' are acceptable translations? (in order of length rido.gif )

Most restaurants have just one pastry chef, so I guess that one would be the "chief" by default.

I am not sure of the purpose of saying -aĵ-. Pastry chefs do lots of stuff that has nothing to do with cakes at all.

I would go with simply "dolĉaĵisto", because "dolĉaĵoj" is a common term for all desserts (cakes, candies, cookies, etc). You could include or leave out the "ĉef" part, depending on whether you feel that you're in charge of something.

I think I would go with dolĉaĵisto... I'm a pastry chef in training actually. Well, I'm going to culinary school next year to become a pastry chef.

Someone asked me what I was studying in Esperanto and I could only find a translation for chef, so that's what I said... Now I know I can say dolĉaĵisto.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it!
