Saluton

I am really surprised (& pleased!) at the number of people on Lernu that say that they use Linux.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that the people who want to use free & open source software are also the people who take the trouble to learn the international language?

Tiel ŝajnas. (That's how it seems.) I use Ubuntu most of the time, and I just translated the open-source program Mnemosyne into Esperanto.

I have Ubuntu but I don't use it because it doesn't connect with the internet here.

I have it too and I don't use it either because of the same problem of Rogir.

I use Ubuntu almost all the time.

It was funny during the IJK, many people (including me) were students or had a job related to computers.

I use it too without any problem it connects to the internet out of the box(CDridulo.gif Even by using a live CD. I use a cable to connect to my modem/router but on an old Acer laptop even with WiFi...

I've been using Linux exclusively since 1997. No Windows at all in this household since then. I've gravitated toward Ubuntu over the last few years.

One thing I am finding helpful is setting the interface language to Esperanto when logging in, in addition to being able to toggle the keyboard. So my top panel menu shows "Aplikaĵoj Lokoj, Sistemo" and (mostly) the whole interface is in Esperanto. Not exactly "immersion", but it gives me a reason to keep my mind in Esperanto mode most of the time, as I probably spend 14 hours a day on the computer. It being both my work and my leisure activity.

Ironically, it makes me think harder about my English spelling, since I don't have English spell checking now! rido.gif

Ubuntu 8.10 improves connectability. One of my USB wireless network adapters didn't work with 8.04 but did out of the box with 8.10.

I use Ubuntu too.

I think the translation into Esperanto isn't finished yet.
