Frakseno:So, I've got noktelfo and sangelfo, orko, and homo.

But can anyone help me with the appropriate Esperanto words for dwarf and gnome?
It's confusing I know. Apparently the word used for "dwarf" in Auld's translations of La Hobito and La Mastro de l' Ringo is "gnomo". ridego.gif

http://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Hobito

I would use "gnomo" for gnome, even though technically gnomo can mean goblins and dwarves and so on also. And I guess then "nano" for dwarf, and "koboldo" for goblin.

Also don't forget "malmortulo" and "minotaŭro".

I can see that our in-game fakvortaro is going to grow to an unwieldy size before long. Perhaps I should create an online database dictionary somewhere else.

1. The g in "gnomo" is not silent, correct?

2. If we call goblins "koboldoj," what do we then call kobolds?

Correct.

"goblinoj", of course! okulumo.gif

Just kidding, I have no idea.

On a sidenote: I do not play WoW and I don't really plan to; however there might be other esperanto speakers playing it, and they might not be visiting the English forum. Do you think it could be a good idea to move the topic to an Esperanto area of the forum, to attract more players to your guild?

One of our good folks here did cross-post this topic into the E-o language forums. However, I'm concerned that completely moving this thread over to the Esperanto-only forums would lose folks like me, who are not yet competent enough to spend much time over there.

In addition, I've raised the topic elsewhere such as on the official World of Warcraft forums and on my own Esperanto-language blog.

On the other hand, if this thread is proving to be annoying to the non-WoW players in this forum, we'll need to get that taken care of so as not to be disrupting things here.

As most of you have probably noticed, the guild hasn't been to active lately. I think this is probably partly do to not knowing when others will be playing, and getting sick of logging on but unable to find people to play with. So i think that we need a constant time every week that all or most of us play. I'm going to try to log on every Tuesday and Wednesday at 900pm server time. Is that good for you guys? I really don't want the guild to die off.

I must restate here the unfortunate fact that, for the foreseeable future, I will no longer be playing World of Warcraft.
After a while, I found myself having trouble controlling my play time and the game threatened to cause problems in my life as I began to neglect more important things in favor of playing WoW.
I apologize to La Ordeno and to my friends therein.
