I don't think many games really bother to provide a multilingual environment when it is aimed at a young geeky audience, since they supposedly already know English.

Is it by the way true that in WoW there is a language barrier between races created by the game?

the young geeky audience aren't really that young anymore, i read that the average age of WoW players is now like 28? not sure if that's true or not, but its very believe able from the people i meet and know from WoW.

And its true WoW doesn't really provide a multilingual environment on the US servers, (they seem to discourage it!) anglophones sometimes tend to freak out if they hear people speaking another language that they can't understand.

But when it comes to our guild, we are free to do what we want in it because we're the only ones in it. All of our rank names, our guild name, our Message of the Day, guild information and now theirs a guild calender what we can leave notes in, in esperanto.

The main problem is that we can't (or i haven't figured it out yet)type ĉ ĝ ĥ ĵ ŝ or aŭ, but that's ok, most of us just use the x or h system anyways. Although one of my friends who uses a mac is able to write them in the game....

Lunombrulino:We were also creating a fakvortaron. We had to figure out words for Rogue (kas'isto), and other specialty words. Words that pertain to medieval fantasy scenarios are not always easy to find in standard vortaroj.

If you guys will let me know when you'll be on ahead of time, I will make an effort to meet you there. But that's often another problem - most of us don't plan to log on ahead of time. It's usually a case of "Hey! I have some spare time before I need to be somewhere else! I can get in a couple of hours' worth of play."
Making up words for fakvortaro was really fun, one of the words that i really liked was serĉtasko for quest (i think you came up with that one).

As for our biggest problem, how to log on at the same times so that we can play together, WoW now lets guilds have their own calendar. I was thinking we could all write ahead of time, when we plan to play, and put it in the calendar, so that we all can know when everyone plans to log on. I'm going to log on right now to make sure everyone can write in the calendar.

so we have 2 new members in the guild now! and we plan to meet on 9pm this Monday (December 22). i hope more people can join us then! i sent a mass invite through the calender, but i don't really know how that works. but it was fun trying it out anyways, hope to be able to see some of you there. Lunombrulino and Frakseno, do you guys think you will be able to log on then? i know its not much notice but if you guys can that would be awesome!

I am more of an EQ player myself, but I might just fire up the ol' WoW account (at least on a return-trial) if it means I can play a fun game and get to use my meager and pitiful command of Esperanto at the same time. rideto.gif

I gather from the thread that you're alliance on Twisting Nether? I may come along and check it out.

Frakseno (Profil megtekintése) 2008. december 23. 8:08:22

Sorry, Sen, I didn't check the board in time to meet with everyone on Monday night.
I think I'm going to roll a new character on Twisting Nether and hope to catch some of you around there.

To Suzi:
that would be awesome, come and join us!
I'll write as soon as the servers are up again, the names of the players that are more active in the guild at this time, so that you can add them to your friends list and whisper them for a guild invite when they are online.

To Frankseno:
That's ok, i didn't really give much notice. i was just happy to see you pop in. And we need our more experienced esperanto speakers back in the game so that you can help and correct our esperanto! (i'm really struggling with grammar now as i try to write more advanced sentences with many different time tenses!)

I'll try to find another time when the majority of us can log on and play again, I'll make an effort to be online at 9;00pm server time today and tomorrow, i hope everyone will be able to be there like yesterday, it felt like old times again when the guild just got started!

Senlando, I just now saw your message on Tuesday. I have classes on Monday nights, but will be available next Monday if you want to try again.

Senlando:Lunombrulino and Frakseno, do you guys think you will be able to log on then? i know its not much notice but if you guys can that would be awesome!

Frakseno (Profil megtekintése) 2008. december 25. 19:14:32

I am on USA, PST. I am usually able to play on just about any night except Friday night. The main thing is that I know in advance so that I may plan ahead.
As it is, I play at least a little bit on almost every day of the week.
And Esperanto is the only thing that could make me go Alliance! okulumo.gif

Would it be easier if we started a yahoogroup on this topic?
