Has anyone gotten “a pound of used books” from the Esperanto-USA online bookstore? If so, are you pleased with the purchase?
I’m deciding between this and «La granda aventuro» by Ferenc Szilágyi. Which would you get?

I haven't tried buying books for E-USA (because I don't have that much money for that unfortunately), but I would rather pick the "La granda aventuro". A "pound of used books" sounds interesting, but not knowing the titles they'll be sending me, I can't judge whether the quality and contents are that good or bad to my taste before I see those books.

How good is your reading? If it is still very slow, then buy just one book that you really want, to help you maintain your enthusiasm for the language. A pound of books doesn't do much for your excitement for the language if the books are not that interesting, and if it takes you months to read one Esperanto book anyway.

Having said that, remember that it's a human being who is putting together your pound of books, not a robot. If you were to include in the comments of your order something like "I really like novels and poetry" or "I really like history books" or "I like science books" or something like that, they might try to fulfill that request in your pound of books. And I'm sure they wouldn't give you a pound of old UEA jarlibroj, I'm sure they'd try to make sure there was at least something interesting in your pound. So who knows, it could be an interesting grab bag that introduces you to something new!

I thought I’d let everyone know that I decided to get both. I’ll post here again when my order comes in!

Definitely let us know, I've thought about getting the pound of books on multiple occasions.

I got a pound of books once from Eo-USA, and it included a lot of pamphlets and smaller books. I got a book filled with easy Esperanto passages that could be very useful for a beginner, a very old pamphlet in English containing a Esperanto-propaganda play, some book about brain science, an edition of La Oficiala Radikaro from 1923, a very short collection of three stories translated from a Polish author, and an odd large, green squarish book typed in an extremely annoying font that appears to be about neuroscience.

All in all, definitely worth the five bucks.

I'm impressed that you know about Szilágyi's book. You must have made good progress to be able to read it.

My order arrived today! I listed the contents of the Pound on my blog.
