I do however think though that it's more efficient at times to ask English speakers questions in *their* forum rather even if it's in Esperanto. I think however that if you can speak English you should do so out of courtesy (if you remember it's the English forum ha ha) and if not you should use Esperanto.
Otherwise it feels like 1960's Australia - "you want to come here, you have to be of such and such descent speak such and such languages etc".

Hans Dieter does have a good point though in that it sometimes feels as if Esperanto is being threatened in an Esperanto forum. Mi nun ne komprenas :S

Hans-Dieter:IF you speak English well enough to post. But Frank doesn't and said so:

"Bedaŭrinde mi ne parolas la anglan lingvon sufiĉe bone."
And then it was translated by the very nice English forum residents thus removing the need for worry as beginners could still read the message in English, so I don't see there being a need for a warning given the fact that the thread was already established as going to be bilingual

Mutusen:(By the way, I read the link given in the first message and I feel insulted by some posts about Esperanto – sorry – “Espershit”.)
Whoever threw that insult obviously didn't think about how lame it was. They should at least do us the dignity of coming up with something we find intelligent and funny too. Not only that, but it's insulting to Espers. Think about the espers people.

Kaj plue, "esperfeko" faras neniun sencon xD

Hans-Dieter:I can grasp the moderator's reason for doing what (s)he did and (s)he probably meant well. But to mean well is the opposite of doing well. By now posting on europa.eu a message like "even on an Esperanto website English reigns supreme" and linking to this here thread I could now kill the entire argument!
You are confusing the policy of a language-specific forum with the policy of the entire website which includes many forums, most of which are for Esperanto messages, not messages in English or other national languages.

English reigns supreme only in the English forum of lernu.net, just as Chinese reigns supreme in the Chinese forum, and Polish reigns supreme in the Polish forum etc. The individual national language forums are specifically for messages in those languages (e.g. for the benefit of beginners who don't yet know Esperanto.)

If you type a message in English in any of the (far more numerous) Esperanto forums of this website, you will get the analogous request to type in Esperanto, not in English.

So English does not at all reign supreme on the website lernu.net.
