Saluton, I've recently become slightly obsessed with Harry Potter due to rereading the entire series start to finish in about two weeks, this experience slightly blew my mind , which is now constantly flooded with spells and amazing magical things. Sorry, I'll get to the esperanto related bit now. While reading the books for the first time since I started learning EO, I noticed the name Voldemort could be broken into vol' de mort', poetically phrase but correct esperanto meaning want of death, this doesn't make much sense to me, does it mean that which death wants or a wanting for death. Of course it isn't meant to mean anything in EO I'm just curious as to the proper way of interpreting it.
I found out recently that Voldemort is actually french and means flight from death, which makes sense as the character spends much effort trying to escape death. I don't think I have a proper point to make here, I just find it interesting that Voldemort has meaning in both languages but that they're so different.

I'd read it as your "want of death" or "will to die". I wouldn't think of it as death's own want, as that doesn't seem to make much sense.

On a related theme, I heard a joke recently: Why did Harry Potter's parents die? Because of the vol' de mort' lango.gif

Just for fun I tried to find a way to preserve "Tom Marvolo Riddle" rearranging to "I am lord Voldemort." I came up with "Tomas Mevol Ridets," which can become "Mi estas Voldemort.
