Kio signifas la vorto iĉo?

I looked it up in the Reta Vortaro (since none of my dictionaries had it), and i don't understand the definition:
Vivulo de sekso kapabla demeti en aliseksan animalon la semon de ido.

I think it's talking about an animal that can mate with another animal of a different species, like a horse and a donkey make a mule.

Is that correct? It was in the article here:
naismo

----------------------------------------

I don't know about this definition, it's rather oddly worded. However, I have also seen iĉo proposed as a male suffix.

Some people think Esperanto is inherently sexist, so they would like iĉo to become an explicitly male suffix the way ino is an explicityly female suffix.

then, patro would become parent. patriĉo would be father and patrino would be mother.

The source of this comes from the nickname suffixes.

Ino/njo patrino -> panjo

iĉo/ĉjo patro -> paĉjo

I think this is just a fancy way of saying "male". "A living being of a sex who is capable of putting the seed of offspring into a living being of the opposite sex"

("animalo" means an animal or a human; "besto" is the word for a non-human animal)

Thank you. The word aliseksan confused me ridulo.gif

Ahh, that makes more sense. I think the use of the word animalo confused me. Besto was one of the first 10 or so esperanto words I ever learned, so I should have caught that. However, sometimes false friends are very sneaky. ridulo.gif Thanks for pointing out the distinction.
