Saluton. What about in "inteligento" it is simple and easy being intelligent orginal form in inteligenta a adjective but to change into a noun you add the o getting inteligento or even i am a granda inteligento sal.gif I hope you fond this helpful.

jefusan:Nerdo is perfect! It comes from a nonsense word by an internationally beloved writer, to describe something that didn't have a name when Esperanto was created.

Another option might be otako, based on the Japanese word otaku.
I definitely agree that nerdo is a good idea. Otako could also serve well as a pejorative, I suppose(Otaku is/was actually an insult in Japanese culture).

Actually, I think those two are my favourites. They're unfortunate in the sense that new roots would need to be introduced, but it would also be much, much simpler.

In Japanese people I believe otakus are called mania or they have manias. Something like that. Either way, it seems very western to be proud of a common understood as derogatory term, but I'm not sure if it works the same way there okulumo.gif

I don't think that it should be so difficult. Nerdo is perfect and creates no ambiguity with other Esperanto roots.
Besides, sure, you can and should create interesting words to refer to different kinds of nerd, if you feel like it, however they will always refer only to the PERSON. If you notices, most suggestions ended with "-ulo". The thing about the word "nerd", as someone mentioned earlier, it 's that it has too much a depth of meaning to create a word for it all. Also, we can say that a movie/game/book is "nerdy" or full of "nerdiness". Nerds can also have "nerdgasms" when they see something that tickles their "nerdy bone". So, if choose something like "fakemulo" or whatever, you couldn't say "fakemuleco" or even "fakemulumi", which would sound weird because of the "-ul" sufix. However, you can easily say "nerdumi", "nerdeco" and "nerdorgasmo", which all sound great! (laŭ mi...)

Oh, I was experimenting with expressing "Nerd" with what we already have in Esperanto. My understanding of the concept of "Nerd", um, is someone who is good at mental activity (knows a lot, not neccessarily inteligent) but bad at socialising, right?

So I was thinking about something like "Tro-leganto" (over reader) or "Trosciulo" (know-too-much). Like that. Any suggestion?
